This young artist’s work is characterised above all else by his passion for the materials he uses and transparency. His entirely abstract compositions seem to vacillate between painting and sculpture, which for Nicolas Gutiérrez is an excellent way to question the support, the medium and even the destination of the work. With his canvas works and exposed structures, his use of concrete and pigments, his ‘pictorial’ layer and the amalgam of fragments of materials, the artist’s universe oscillates between lightness and heaviness, between opaqueness and transparency, between aesthetics and questioning our lifestyle.
