About Daniel Storms

Daniel Storms is a Belgian-born abstract painter known for his evocative style rooted in brutalism.

Daniel’s professional career meant travelling across the world, where he developed a fascination with the stark geometry and raw textures of urban landscapes; these elements continue to dominate his work.

His art favours bold forms, layered textures, and a restrained, often monochromatic palette to convey the interplay between structure and chaos.

Currently residing in London, Daniel draws inspiration from the city’s dynamic architectural contrasts and vibrant art scene. His paintings often evoke a sense of both resistance and decay, reflecting the tension between human ambition and the inevitability of time.

“My choice to live in London several years ago has strongly influenced the themes I paint now. The ever-changing views of cities fascinate me, as does their constant destruction and rebuilding. Furthermore, I am a huge fan of 20th-century brutalist architecture. This lured me to the Barbican, my current home and a neighbourhood that is often depicted in my artworks.

I mainly paint on canvas with acrylic paint, sometimes combined with India ink. I avoid pencils and brushes and prefer to work with tools from DIY shops. When I start painting something new, I have a very broad concept in mind that then develops into an abstract cityscape. This is how my favourite paintings came about.”
